Haslet TX Area Guide

Haslet is a city in Denton and Tarrant Counties in Texas. As of 2000, the Haslet’s population was approximately 1,000. Haslet is located on Farm Road 156, about sixteen miles northwest of Fort Worth.

Haslet History

The area of Haslet was first settled around 1880, but it is likely that no distinct community was formed until 1883, when tracks for the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway were extended through the area. In 1887, a post office opened in the area. The community was named for the Michigan hometown of the railroad’s contractor. By 1896, Haslet had a school with twenty-one students. In 1903 the town’s population was sixty-seven. During the 1920s, Haslet had three grocery stores, a hardware store, a dry goods store and a cotton gin. War-related employment in Fort Worth most likely contributed to the growth of Haslet’s population in the late 1940s. The town had been incorporated by 1960 and Haslet had a population of 250 and seven businesses.

By the 1990’s, Haslet had become a commuter community for Fort Worth with approximately 795 residents and about twelve businesses. Today, Haslet is a thriving city that continues to grow.

Haslet Parks and Recreation

The Parks Board of Haslet serves to recommend improvements of the park and recreation areas. The Board strives to stimulate public interest in the development and maintenance of parks and playgrounds and to promote close cooperation between Haslet and private citizens so that all park and recreational facilities are used to their maximum benefit.
